Firstly, I was just like to ask a small question to anyone who might know – how do you treat lip burns? No, I haven’t been out in the sun (don’t want to ruin my delightfully pasty complexion), it is just that my lip balm separated, resulting in me putting possible concentrated peppermint oil(?) directly on my lips. It doesn’t hurt too much, but they’re dry as all hell and I don’t know how to fix them!
Anyway, I bought some cds on Friday, and happily stayed up late uploading them into iTunes (it takes a while when you are using an external cd drive). For the low price of twenty dollars, I got the Juno soundtrack, and the best of both The Whitlams and Alanis Morrisette. Whee. I want to watch my new dvd today, but I’m not really in the mood to search for my remote, and my tv doesn’t work well without a remote…
Maybe I’ll just have a nice long sleep, and when I wake up it will be my birthday!

I hope out of the 135 people who visited my blog yesterday (most from links talking of my massive unexamined privilege), at least some of them realised I am NOT anti-disability in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. Not even a little bit. I was just making a point, but apparently suggesting that there may have been a perfectly good reason for a producer to choose Kevin McHale over the other people who auditioned for the part of Artie (such as his amazing voice) means I’m a massive heartless bitch.
I wish I could be excited about the huge (for me) influx of views, but it just makes me sad that that how the hits came my way.

Etsy Find #2!
I am Henry the Eighth! Henry the Eighth, I am, I am!
Sorry, just making sure you all get it. I LOVE THESE BADGES. Only $1USD, cheap postage, WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE? Actually, I can’t buy any now because I don’t have any money, and by the time that I do, I will have to buy Christmas presents. But after Christmas, I’m going to go crazy buying all the stuff I couldn’t before! This seller has beautiful badges, I would say it’s well over 100 different types.
Not a Henry VIII fan? How about:

No? How about a bit of Freudism?

Anyway, there are plenty to choose from, and they’re all awesome. Also, pay a little extra and you can have them turned into magnets.
Seller: Beanforest (beanforest.etsy.com)
Price: $1!
Shipping: <$4
Function: It’s a badge.

Linkie Link #4
- This post originally made me smile. But then I read the comments. So many closed-minded individuals, I’m glad I live in Australia. That said, nowhere in Australia has legalised same-sex marriage, so we’re not much better…
- My favourite Not Always Right yet.
- Films that defined the Noughties. I disagree with several, especially Borat making it into the top ten (hate that movie), but a very, very good list.
- BBC News: Mastering French manners, the hard way. It got a giggle or two out of me. I also appreciated Fabulously Broke’s commentary on the article.
- Jumbled Words talks about the severe bloggers’ reaction to Glee, especially the character of Artie, and makes some points I really agree with!

If anyone took offence to my last post, I’m sorry. It was my opinion, and I was not thinking clearly, in that I may have not phrased everything correctly.
I apologise.

Re: Glee “Wheels”
Short, slightly irritated post:
I heard of quite a few people complaining about Glee for hiring able-bodied Kevin McHale (I think that’s his name?) to play Artie. Have you guys seen Glee? I’m sorry, but the main idea is that these kids can sing. Really, really well. Their personalities are merely backstories to fill in the gaps between singalongs, and yes, so is Artie’s disability. I’m sure they would have hired a disabled person if they were to come to the audition and outsing Kevin, but no one did. And Glee shouldn’t be criticised for that.
It would have been hard enough to find actors who can sing like that, (albeit everyone knows how synthesised that is) let alone disabled actors, a surely small proportion of American teenage actors, who have voices like that, and can portray the character needed.
Rant over. Also, this (http://bitchmagazine.org/post/glee-ful-appropriation) is my inspiration, because it is as if this person sought out things to bitch about. Personally, I would be more angry about the Finn and Rachel scene where they pretend Finn is disabled in order to get him a job. To me that is more offensive than choice of actors. Or how about the drug use in those cupcakes? There was no moral lesson learnt from that other than DRUGS MAKE YOU MONEY!
Either enjoy the show or shut up and turn it off.

Doopadeedoo
As of tomorrow, I am not enrolled in any educational institutions.
That’s right, freedom!
A week from today, I will be 18! How shall I celebrate this? Well, from sheer bad luck, I may be working, but I will celebrate my newfound of-age-ness by APPLYING FOR STUFF.
I don’t have my driver’s license, and am not ready to get it yet, so I will apply for a proof of age card. Also is important because my only photo id has THE YEAR OF MY BIRTH RUBBED OFF. WHYYYYY? I will also celebrate the freedom of no longer being a child by apply for my very own medicare card. Oh, and I’m signing up for the organ donation register.
OH, BEING 18 SHALL BE THRILLING!
What? I’m not much of a drinker, what else can I celebrate?

A little thought
Seven years ago today, I realised that in eleven days, I would turn eleven. The date was 11/11. Kind of awesome.
Would be awesomer for any kid born on my birthday in 2000. They’ll be turning 11 in 11 days on 11/11/11. AWESOME.

I hereby promise:
- To blog, at the very least, no matter how busy I am, weekly.
- To reply to all comments I recieve, excluding spam. (I have replied to recent comments today)
- To improve my proofreading, as I’ve been slipping up recently. (see ecotopic and my RSS missing word – blame year 12, I swear I have gotten dumber)
- To strive to improve my posts – something regular might be nice. (Not TiLT, maybe an Etsy finds? Definitely a link roundup)
- To complain less :)
- To keep a diary next year – put in things to post, work times, important days, all that jazz!
I’m doing better at my exams than I thought, so I may be able to get into the Health Sciences and Social Science degree. However, I’m thinking if I do, I may opt for just the social science degree. I’m dreaming of a major in anthropology, and a minor in psychology. Whee. I could always do those as two majors in the double degree, but I don’t know… minor in psych seems better!
It’s funny, despite how different we are, my brothers and I are all following down the family track unintentionally.
My eldest brother: training to be a paramedic
Middle brother: considering being a kindergarten teacher
Me: social sciences, psychology
Mum: was a kindergarten teacher, a social worker afterwards
Her family background: father and brother both doctors
Dad: manager of a company that helps disabled people gain employment.
We’ve all got the genes to help people, I suppose.
